This construction is part of a bold vision for a new San Francisco neighborhood with a well connected, elegantly designed transit center that will bring together many forms of public transit.

San Francisco Bay Area High Resolution Aerial Photography and Satellite Imagery

Virgin America Terminal at SFO — This aerial photograph showing the Virgin America terminal at the San Francisco International Airport ("SFO") is part of a high resolution aerial photography data set that covers the entire San Francisco Bay Area acquired in 2011. The imagery has a resolution of a 1' pixel -- one pixel or picture element covers one foot on the ground. The imagery is suitable for printing up to an approximate scale of 1"=100'. Included in the coverage of this data set are the following Bay Area counties: San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Sonoma and Napa. High resolution satellite imagery is acquired even more frequently. The most recent acquisition of San Francisco has a 50cm pixel resolution and was acquired yesterday, April 19, 2012. Additional recent high resolution satellite imagery of the San Francisco bay area was acquired
April 8 and April 4, 2012.

Aerial Photography Hangar One Moffett Field Mountain View

aerial photograph Hangar One Moffett Field — Hangar One was built in the 1930s for the naval airship USS Macon. Designed by German air ship and structural engineer Karl Arnstein, it is the world's largest freestanding structure covering eight acres. Hangar One is over 1000 feet long and 198 feet high and is an example of aerodynamic architecture. The hangar rests on a reinforced pad which is anchored to concrete pilings. The US Navy has evaluated a variety of options for remediating lead, PCBs and asbestos used in the construction of the hangar, and Google executives have proposed participating in cost of restoring the hangar as part of an agreement to store their corporate aircraft in Hangar One.
The lower aerial photograph shows Hangar One's structure under its skin (photographed April 14, 2012) at the doors originally designed to shield the USS Macon from winds as it moved in and out of the hangar.

aerial fog moves through Golden Gate into San Francisco Bay — This broad historical aerial overview of San Francisco Bay shows the fog entering through the Golden Gate in 1985. Fog covers a good portion of the City of San Francisco and extends into the bay between Angel Island and Treasure Island. On left side of this aerial photograph are portions of Marin County including Tiburon and the Richmond San Rafael bridge. On the upper right, Alameda and the Port of Oakland. Because the San Francisco Bay Area was an important early center for aviation, it is covered more extensively with historical aerial photography than many other portions of the United States.

Aerial Photography San Andreas Fault Crystal Springs Reservoir

aerial photo San Andreas Fault Crystal Springs Reservoir — A rift valley created by the San Andreas Fault contains the Crystal Springs Reservoir, a pair of artificial lakes in the northern Santa Cruz mountains in San Mateo County, California. The reservoir was built and originally owned by the Spring Valley Water Company and was later deeded to San Francisco. Water is piped into the reservoir from Hetch Hetchy and from the Pilarcitos Creek and Alameda Creek reservoirs. This aerial photograph shows the San Andreas fault as it runs toward Point Reyes. Interstate 280 and the San Francisco International Airport are on the right.

Aerial Photography Pigeon Point Lighthouse

aerial Pidgeon Point Lighthouse — Originally lit at sunset November 15, 1872, the Pigeon Point Lighthouse has a Fresnel lens which is composed of over 1000 prisms and lenses. The lighthouse and the rocky promontory on which it sits are visible through the fog in this aerial photograph and are preserved as Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park, a California state park. Located on highway one 5 miles south of Pescadero, it is an important landmark for ships approaching San Francisco from the south. The lighthouse was originally equipped with a lamp that burned refined lard, which was later replaced by a kerosene lamp and in 1926 by a 1000 watt electrical bulb. The Fresnel lens has a range of 24 nautical miles and is now lit only on special occasions though a rotating 24 inch aerobeacon mounted on the front of the tower is still an active navigation aid. An electrically operated fog horn has also been installed.
